Shryftoriz is a browser extension that detects russian fonts on websites and helps you easily replace them with Ukrainian fonts by Ukrainian designers.The teams behind the NGO “Ukraine in Color” and Rentafont built Shryftoriz to overcome the visual blindness and toxic “default” that have had us using hostile fonts on autopilot for years — on social media, on websites, in books, magazines, and clothing, in everything that shapes our daily visual space. Treating fonts as something neutral, we stopped thinking about where these symbols come from and began ignoring an entire industry responsible for them in Ukraine, forcing type designers to abandon this field of design. At the same time, our font “views” go straight into the pockets of the russian invaders. Shryftoriz is the world's first font antivirus. Such an “antivirus” is necessary because global platforms like Google Fonts and Canva legitimize russian fonts and fonts whose Cyrillic was made by russians, passing them off as “universal Cyrillic” by default. As a result, Ukrainian state institutions, designers, and businesses often use a hostile product unknowingly, popularizing and sponsoring the aggressor through the taxes of russian type developers. Shryftoriz corrects this inertia: it detects such fonts on any website and instantly offers a quality Ukrainian alternative, turning a difficult ethical choice into an automatic professional habit. Shryftoriz is a free and very simple font assistant in the browser that checks every site's fonts in the background. The app's architecture lets it “cut into” other environments such as Canva, Google Docs, Google Sheets. Working in Canva and Google Docs / Sheets, Shryftoriz flags russian and Ukrainian fonts right as you pick them. Today Shryftoriz works in every major browser — Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox, and others (Safari coming soon) — and integrates with Google Docs, Google Fonts, and Canva, where it highlights russian and Ukrainian fonts right in the font picker. And most importantly — now any AI agent can connect Shryftoriz over MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, Figma, and others): whenever it creates anything new, it always checks against our database and never once picks a font that leans toward rf. “A typeface is the body of a word, the physical form of a thought, and it is never neutral. That is why using russian Cyrillic today is not merely a professional oversight — it is permission for the enemy to keep shaping our visual context,” say the project's authors. This project became possible thanks to two teams and the Stop fonts Telegram channel joining forces. The Shryftoriz font database draws on years of experience from Rentafont founder Yevhen Sadko: it already identifies 309 quality Ukrainian typefaces that can replace 1293 fonts with russian ties. The “Ukraine in Color” team, with deep experience building digital products, turned this database into a convenient platform — a tool for decolonizing our visual space. Today this choice is critically important, because every Ukrainian font is direct support for our artists instead of funding the aggressor, and a return to the graphic tradition that generations fought for, from Heorhiy Narbut to today's designers. Beyond cultural identity, it is a matter of the safety of future technologies: we plan to integrate Shryftoriz into the ecosystems of AI agents such as Claude, Gemini, and Figma AI, to prevent the generation of interfaces with a hostile visual code at the algorithmic level. “We do not just criticize — we offer a path to responsible consumption and the protection of copyright, which are fundamental for the European community. Shryftoriz turns the exhausting investigation of where every letter comes from into an automatic professional habit of choosing your own,” the development team emphasizes.
